With the new year approaching, thousands will undoubtedly be setting new goals for themselves. But before you go telling your friends about all you plan to accomplish, you may want to think again.
According to MuckWork project creator Derek Sivers, telling someone your goal can actually be counterproductive.
Imagine telling someone that you meet today what you are going to do. Imagine their congratulations and their high image of you ... Don't you feel one step closer, like it's already becoming part of your identity? Well, bad news: you should've kept your mouth shut, because that good feeling now will make you less likely to do it.
